Dubreuil questions the creativity of AI

Laurent Dubreuil, Professor of Comparative Literature & Romance Studies, and Director of the Humanities Lab, recently published an essay in Harper's Magazine  ‘Metal Machine Music’ questioning AI’s ability to write creatively.

With our language use and inner lives becoming increasingly repetitive and predictable, much could at least conceivably be automated. Moreover, not everyone has the same facility with words. It takes skill to write poetry, and even that is no guarantee of verse that is powerful or life-changing.

Our experiment, then, aimed to demonstrate differences that would not only separate us from AI but from one another.
